The Twilight Series Finale took place on the 9th of June, with a decent turn-out of 15 boats over 4 Classes. Flukey Southerly winds made for a challenging finale – with close encounters in all classes.
Invictus enters the finale with a slim 1-point lead over close rivals Waka Tere, and managed to defend their lead to finish ahead of Waka in 2nd place to secure the Series I victory in the IRC Class. Jong Dee won the race on Saturday, sneaking ahead of Red Rum to complete the podium in 3rd.
It was a close fight to the very end between Arbudhen and Minx in the PY Class, as the latter sailed well to finish 2nd and ahead of Arbudhen in 3rd. This closes the 1 point gap Arbudhen had going into the finale, putting them on the same number of points for the Series. Unfortunately for Minx, an earlier bullet in April from Arbudhen was the tie-breaker, allowing Arbudhen to secure the PY title in our Twilight Series I. Sangaree’s attendance for the last 2 races of the series was the deciding factor for their 3rd place finish overall. Despite winning Saturday’s race, New Blue Eyes had to settle for 5th in the Series due to a no-show for Race 1 & 2.
The Cruising Multihulls saw some big changes in the overall standings. Witblits leads the fleet going into the final race, but a much needed haul-up earlier in the week resulted in a DNC for them on Saturday, dropping them to 3rd overall. Both Eepai and Cicak benefit from this, with the latter finishing 2nd on Saturday and clinching overall 1st ahead of Eepai by 2 points.
Damien Geoffray marks his return to Twilight racing with a bullet in the Beach Catamaran Class, sailing Kaze to a comfortable victory. HIPP was a close 2nd, ahead of Persian Cat in 3rd. Poor attendance all round in the Beach Catamaran Fleet sees Doug Fimmell’s Madfish II emerging the best of the fleet despite DNCs in Race 4 & 5. Uli Braun’s Nacra 15 was a close 2nd under the same circumstances, and Chris Waddington’s Persian Cat finishes 1 point behind in the overall standings to complete the Series podium winners.
